Sadly MarionCC farewelled Elaine in early October, after more than three years at the helm of the front desk. While Elaine has enjoyed working part time over the past few years it was time to return to full time employment and no sooner than she made this decision she was offered an opportunity that was too good to refuse!
Elaine will be mostly working from home during the day, leaving her free to attend dancing in the evenings and still able to enjoy her weekends. There were many tears (both hers and ours) when Elaine said goodbye but like most of the previous staff at MarionCC she’ll be dropping in for a spinal tune up and we’ll be keeping in touch. We wish her all the best in her new position and look forward to her visits to MarionCC.

We all look forward to this time of year as the days become longer and we start to see maximum temperatures starting with a 2! It becomes easier to remember to put ice on when we’ve hurt ourselves or overdone it or even after an adjustment if necessary.
There are many theories and discussion around the use of ice so it’s not a simple recommendation. Ice should be used in early stages of injury when the swelling is active. The ice will decrease the blood flow, provide pain relief and reduce compression of the surrounding healthy tissue as long as it’s used correctly.

In conjunction with Spinal Health Week in May, MarionCC has been offering a free spinal screening for children under the age of 12. Dr Lydia has been busy assessing children of all ages from as young as 7 months old, and providing education, advice and treatment as indicated. She even saw a young lady who remembered that she first came in as a child when Tracey was offering her own free spinal screening 20 years ago!

On their way home Dr Tracey and her partner will be visiting Dr Kit-Li Khaw in Kuala Lumpur to see how his new clinic is going and no doubt they will have their spines checked and adjusted after their adventures. Lydia, Elaine and Isla will be holding the fort and Isla will also be busy with the end of semester and exams. We wish her the best of luck!
March / April 2024
After attending a local chiropractic paediatric seminar here in Adelaide in February, Dr Lydia will be heading to Melbourne in early March for the first Australian Gonstead Paediatric seminar, a whole weekend focussed on the specifics of checking and adjusting babies and children. Dr Lydia has been very busy since the start of the year working in three practices! She has been filling in for a chiropractor who is on maternity leave, so she has been learning other chiropractic techniques as well as being exposed to how another practice runs. Luckily she had a break over Chinese New Year and returned refreshed, eager to keep learning and working longer hours.

As Chiropractors we're always interested in learning more about how our body works and how we can stay healthy. Tracey recently came across some interesting research about breathing. Most people are aware that it's better to inhale through your nose and breathe out through your mouth.
Interestingly, by inhaling through your nose your sinuses produce nitrous oxide which is delivered to the upper lung causing dilation of the blood vessels and thus increasing your ability to absorb oxygen. The more oxygen in our body the better we function, especially our brain. Research compared nose breathing to mouth breathing in a series of difficult tasks to come to this conclusion.

As the weather becomes cooler and the seasons change it's always a great time to assess how we're caring for our health so we're prepared to fight off the bugs. Tracey has put together an advice sheet to help our patients arm themselves with some simple tips for staying well. Be sure to pick one up and share the advice with your family and friends

We’ve had great reports from our Archie’s thongs wearers over the Summer.
We decided to stock these so that instead of “barefooting about” in the warmer weather there was a comfortable and supportive alternative that is less likely to upset your feet, knees and back than ordinary thongs or nothing at all. We’ve all been converted and are enjoying thongs that don’t fall off and are reasonably supportive.
