November / December 2023

As Chiropractors we are primarily interested in the function and mobility of the spine and how that affects the nervous system but we also adjust other joints in the body.

Dysfunctional extremity joints can impact the spine and nervous system and vice versa.
An example of this is if your ankle isn’t working properly it can affect your knee, hip and pelvis and ultimately your spine and nervous system.

We also see presentations where the spine/pelvis isn’t working properly and it creates extremity symptoms, which may seem unrelated.

A good example of this is plantar fasciitis.

We regularly come across patients who are being treated by a podiatrist for this condition without addressing the spinal/nervous system component, probably the reason they developed the symptoms initially.

Tracey recently had to care for her partner who fell off his mountain bike and injured his knee. Initially he improved with a couple of knee adjustments but when his spine was adjusted upon their return, it made a huge difference.

She even found that after adjusting his spine, it changed the way she needed to adjust his knee.

He gradually improved until he only needed a pelvis adjustment to substantially improve his knee function and symptoms.
It was a great example of the interconnectedness of the spine and extremity joint, so let us know if you have extremity symptoms...we may be able to help.

A quick update on our comings and goings for November and December…Dr Lydia has just visited Uluru in October on her way to a Chiropractic Paediatric seminar in Melbourne, so she’ll be available in the lead up to Christmas. Tracey is heading off on a road trip to the South Coast of NSW to visit friends in late October so she’ll be unavailable until November 10th.
